Playing video games actually weakens the brain of young people

A legitimate study had revealed that playing video games actually weakens the brain of the young people. It puts them to a higher risk of dementia in the later part of the life. A trial which was conducted in Canada found that all those people who were spending a lot of time playing the video games like Call of Duty were having less grey matter in the crucial part of their brains. The scientists who were behind this research have also cautioned the doctors against the recommendations of the video games to the old people as a means of boosting their cognitive functions. They have warned that playing video games may harm the abilities of players to retain the memories.

Playing action game leads to the shrinkage in the hippocampus region of brain

Few of the researchers from the universities- de Montreal and the Mc Grill published a research paper which displays a kind of link between the first person shooters and also the loss of grey matter from the hippocampus part of the brain .The hippocampus is that part of brain which is handling the consolidation of the short term memory into the long term and also the spatial navigation.

The Gregory West and Veronique Bohbot are the two researchers who carried out the studies

Two of the researchers, the Gregory West and the Veronique Bohbot lead this project .It has been found that people who played the action games like the Call of duty and the Medal of Honor has experienced shrinkage in the hippocampus region of the brain .But playing the Super Mario games had surprisingly opposite effect on the hippocampus and has led to the growth in it.

Some other evidences suggest that playing video games improves visual short term memory and eye hand coordination

Some of the evidences suggest that playing video games improves the visual short term memory and also the eye hand coordination. But researchers are now looking at the negative impacts of playing the video games too. Well the current study showing the negative impact on the brain in Canada actually stemmed from two of the considerations. The first is that some of the action video games were recommended by the doctors for increasing the visual attention in the children and also in adults. Secondly, there was a previous study conducted by Dr West and it suggested that the players of the action games employ a kind of the navigational strategy which is called the response learning. This actually forms a navigational habit and simply relying on it.

The action video game designers can alter the games by removing the in system navigational tools

To counter act this potential long lasting damage on the brain, the action video game designers can alter the games by removing the in system navigational tools. This will be allowing the player to get around the landmarks which are included in the world of game and it would actually strengthen the spatial learning.
