Intel has discontinued Atom x5-Z8100P system utilized in Microsoft’s Hololens
The Intel company had announced that the Atom x5-Z8100P system on the chip which is being utilized in the Microsoft’s Hololens has been discontinued .So from September this year, the company will be stop taking the orders for this chip .The last shipping date for these chips will be Oct 30, 2017.
What kind of chips the Microsoft will use in the future iterations of its Hololens?
Well there are many speculations that arise with this announcement from the Intel. The question that arises in everyone’s mind is that what kind of chips the Microsoft will use in the future iterations of its Hololens.The company might have paid Intel for the customised Atom Soc but that was done at a time when Intel company was committed to sell the Atom chips all across the tablets and also the mobile phone market.
The company is still designing some of the Atom based SoC products for many markets
The Atom x5-Z8100P was actually a derivate of the Intel’s Atom x5 series of the chips and these products were targeted towards the tablet Soc market. So now the Intel Company will no longer be developing the Soc products for the tablets and also the mobile phones which are based on the Atom. But the company is still designing and developing many of the Atom based SoC products for many markets .Although the company is retiring its Atom x5-Z8100P Soc which is being utilized inside the first generation Hololens, the augmented reality handset by the Microsoft.

The first generation Hololens is based on Atom x5-Z8100P Soc and holographic processing unit, HPU
